Situated between Pamplona y Donosti-San Sebastián in the centre of the Larráun valley at the foot of the Aralar range, is the pretty town of Lekunberri.

It is laid out on a plain around the 14th-century Progothic church of San Juan Bautista. The town's houses are large, many of them with ashlars in the walls, doors with rounded arches and windows with lintels.

The Tourism Office is located in the old Plazaola railway station, from where the Plazaola Greenway pass, a path that follows the old railway line that used to run between Pamplona and Donosti-San Sebastián.

From here, it is a short drive up to the Sanctuary of San Miguel de Aralar , surrounded by magnificent scenery. Inside the church is a 12th-century Romanesque altar piece that is considered one of the best examples of enamel work in Europe.

If you want to get to know the hidden insides of the Aralar mountain range, there is no better place than the caves of Mendukilo in the nearby village of Astitz.

Lekunberri celebrates its el Pilar, festivities in October e They last for five days and fill the streets with joy and popular traditions. Dancers sway to the sound of pipes and the txistu (Basque flute), while centuries-old trades come to life again through demonstrations of rural sports that are based on them.

salir de Pamplona por Berriozar dirección Vitoria/San Sebastián y tomar la A-15 hasta la salida 124 dirección San Sebastián. Girar a la izquierda por la NA-1300 y entrar en Lekunberri.
